Characterization of Topological States on a Lattice with Chern Number
We study Chern numbers to characterize the ground state of strongly interacting systems on a lattice. This method allows us to perform a numerical characterization of bosonic fractional quantum Hall (FQH) states on a lattice where conventional overlap calculation with known continuum case such as Laughlin state, breaks down. We calculate the Chern number by manipulating the twist angles of boun...
متن کاملChern - Simons term and Topological Charge on the Lattice
In a somewhat overlooked work by Seiberg, a definition of the topological charge for SU(N) lattice fields was given. Here, it is shown that Seibergs and Lüschers charge definition are related up to the section of the bundle. With the continued interest in baryon number violating processes, Seibergs paper is useful since it allows for a Chern-Simons number also.
متن کاملLattice of compactifications of a topological group
We show that the lattice of compactifications of a topological group $G$ is a complete lattice which is isomorphic to the lattice of all closed normal subgroups of the Bohr compactification $bG$ of $G$. The correspondence defines a contravariant functor from the category of topological groups to the category of complete lattices. Some properties of the compactification lattice of a topological ...
متن کاملLattice Chern-Simons Number Without Ultraviolet Problems
We develop a topological method of measuring Chern-Simons number change in the real time evolution of classical lattice SU(2) and SU(2) Higgs theory. We find that the ChernSimons number diffusion rate per physical 4-volume is very heavily suppressed in the broken phase, and that it decreases with lattice spacing in pure Yang-Mills theory, although not as quickly as predicted by Arnold, Son, and...
متن کاملMeasuring Topological Number of a Chern-Insulator from Quench Dynamics
In this letter we address the issue that whether the topological number of a static Hamiltonian can be measured from a dynamical quench process. We focus on a two-band Chern insulator in twodimension, for instance, the Haldane model, whose quantum state is a pseudo-spin on the Bloch sphere. The dynamical process is described by a mapping from the [kx, ky, t] space to the Bloch sphere, character...
